Phuture Phlogiston
Enjoy my tribute to the late, great, PM Magazine, the syndicated local semi-news program that ran during the ‘80s. It was the TV equivalent of Bugles – light, airy, a vaguely adequate taste, but something you’d ditch as soon as anything better was available.
- Whenever I visit one of my favorite blogs hosted by Google/Blogger, I think it would be much cooler if the domain were BlobSpot.com.
- It’s been a breezy spring, and ever since the MS 150, the wind has been mocking us; 10 straight days of wind out of the southeast.
- One of our pastors was praising FamilyLife’s “Weekend to Remember” to encourage married members of our Sunday School class to attend. He turned to his wife and said, “We had an amazing time when we went.” She paused and said, “Did we?” We decided to go anyway, and were very much blessed by it.
- During our “Date Night,” we made a pilgrimage to a local theater to see Ben Stein’s “Expelled.” Well, one of us saw it, the other got some well-deserved nap time. Among the many descriptions the film will receive, “fast-paced romp” isn’t one of them, but it is certainly every bit as even-handed as any of Michael Moore’s mocumentaries, to which it will no doubt be compared. Which is of course to say it isn’t very even-handed at all, but anything that makes Richard Dawkins look like the self-involved twit that he is gets a passing grade with me. I am optimistic that one day the many administrators and intellectuals responsible for the incredible crackdown on the supposedly sacred notion of academic freedom will one day be embarrassed by the evolution of our understanding.
